eSIM is a SIM embedded in your smartphone. You can connect immediately without having to insert or remove a physical SIM card.

Preparing for an overseas trip is a lot of work! In addition to your passport, plane tickets, and local currency, a smartphone is essential for looking things up and using maps locally!

Frequently asked questions

I want to check the compatible devices.

*Please note that some devices purchased from carriers may not support eSIM or may be SIM-locked, so please confirm in advance.

iPhone

iPhone XS series, iPhone XR series, iPhone SE series (2nd / 3rd generation), iPhone 11 series, iPhone 12 series, iPhone 13 series, and later

*eSIM functionality is not available on iPhones for mainland China, and iPhones for Hong Kong/Macau (excluding iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone SE 2020, iPhone XS).

Android

Google Pixel 4 and later, Galaxy S series S24 and later, OPPO Reno series Reno 13 A and later, some series from Xperia, AQUOS, Xiaomi, etc. (other eSIM-compatible models from each manufacturer)

*With some Android devices, we have confirmed cases where connections cannot be made due to compatibility issues with our eSIM. Before use, we recommend testing the device's functionality with our eSIM test service before your trip.

Caution: *Devices that may not be able to use our SIM

Even if SIM-unlocked, Android devices, Wi-Fi devices, tablets, and iPads may not be able to use our SIM.

Therefore, we do not provide operation guarantees, returns, or refunds for these devices.

▼ Devices with a high probability of not being able to connect

Galaxy, Xperia, Wi-Fi devices, Tablets, iPad

*Even if a connection cannot be made, returns or refunds will not be issued. Please confirm device compatibility before purchasing.

Is there a way to check if it can be set up or connected in Japan?

We offer the "eSIM Connection Support Plan" to allow you to test eSIMs in Japan before you depart. This plan includes one-on-one setup support via LINE and a money-back guarantee, providing peace of mind even for first-time eSIM users. It helps prevent internet issues at your destination, ensuring a comfortable overseas trip or business trip.

When should I set up the SIM?

A Wi-Fi environment is required to set up eSIM. We recommend installing the eSIM on your device and preparing it before departure.
*You can install it after arriving at your destination, but please note that a Wi-Fi environment is required.

How many times can I use an eSIM?

This can only be installed on one device. Please note that it cannot be transferred to another device.

Can I use a SIM card and an eSIM at the same time?

If you wish to use another company's SIM plan for calls and SMS, and DeSiM's eSIM plan for data communication, you can use two SIMs simultaneously. By configuring the necessary settings on your device, you can use both at the same time.

However, please note that if you enable the settings for another company's SIM plan, international roaming charges may apply when making calls or sending/receiving SMS. Please check the details of your contract plan.

Can I extend the period or top up my data?

It is not possible to extend or add days or GBs (top-up). If you are using a transit flight, we recommend purchasing an eSIM for your layover destination as local Wi-Fi may not always be available.

Can I use tethering?

It may be possible, but please understand that we cannot guarantee its operation as it depends on the device.

How is the plan counted?

Instead of counting 24 hours from the start of usage as one day, we count the period from the moment you connect to the local network until 23:59 of that day (local time) as one day. Please note that this is not based on Japan Standard Time.

  • For Asia and Oceania, Taiwan time is used as the standard.
  • For other countries, local time is used as the standard.

My line was activated while I was setting it up in Japan. Does this mean the service has started?

Our eSIM plans will start once the eSIM receives a signal from the local network upon your arrival at your destination. Even if you install the eSIM on your device and turn it on in Japan, the plan will not start.

*Please turn off the installed eSIM while you are in Japan, as we want you to prioritize using your Japanese network connection.

When should I remove my eSIM?

Please do not delete until you have finished using it. If you delete the eSIM, you may not be able to reinstall it.

Please note that we cannot re-issue or refund if you accidentally delete it during use.

I'm getting an error message saying "Incompatible" and I can't install it.

Your device's SIM lock has not been removed. Even if your device is eSIM compatible, you will need to unlock it if it is SIM locked by your carrier. Please contact your carrier for information on how to unlock your SIM. After unlocking your SIM, please try installing again.

It takes a long time during activation. Why is that?

This often happens when you install an eSIM in your home country before traveling. The eSIM is attempting to connect to an overseas network, which can take tens of minutes to several hours. Please rest assured that even during activation, the eSIM installation itself has been completed.

Errors such as "Cannot activate" or "Already set up" appear.

It is possible that it has already been loaded onto your device.

  • Please check if the eSIM has been added to the "SIM section" under "Settings" → "Mobile Data".
  • If the eSIM has not been added to the SIM section, please try again. If the same error occurs, please contact customer support. We will check it in our system.
  • Alternatively, your communication environment may be unstable or your OS may not be up to date. Please check if you have a stable internet connection. Or, update your OS to the latest version and try again.

Please note: The eSIM QR code is valid for only one device. Please be careful not to load it onto a device you do not intend to use. If you accidentally load it onto a different device, we will not be able to re-issue the QR code.

Which type of plan are you using?

Excluding a few exceptions, most of our products are data-only plans. If you are purchasing a data plan, please select "Data only."

Please note: Even if you select "Data only," you can still make calls using apps such as LINE.
